  • During a camping trip in 2012, I came to the realization that I wanted to move back to Kansas City to support my parents. On my way back to St. Louis to meet Sara, my father-in-law, Rick Halpern, who was playing golf for the Westwood Country Club team against Oakwood in the annual Wood Cup, called and asked me to reroute to Kansas City to be a substitute on the Westwood Team. So, while in Kansas City to play in the Wood Cup, I ran into a good friend of my dad, Mike Schultz, who told me about the new Kauffman School that was hiring. Within two months of my decision to relocate to KC, I was there, working at Kauffman School, living with my parents for a few months while I looked for a home for my family. Little did I know how precious that time would be. Thanks to Oakwood, and that chance meeting, my family was blessed with the time together we needed, and my kids will have lasting memories of their grandparents.
