Robert Flarsheim Intervew, 1985
“When I was researching Oakwood’s history for the book, I could not locate any plans of the original golf course layout. After completing the book, I came across a cassette tape of an interview that Ken Krakauer did of Robert Flarsheim in 1985. Robert was the oldest son of Henry Flarsheim who was the president of Oakwood in 1914, and the chairman of the committee to develop Oakwood. Robert spent a lot of time at the club as a child when the course was being built.
After listening to 54 minutes of the interview, Krakauer asked Flarsheim what the layout of the original course was. Flarsheim started to explain, then suggested they go out and drive the course so that he could show him. Unfortunately, they never completed the interview, but Flarsheim did say that the first tee was on the east side of the property where the back nine is now. This is the interview from that cassette.”
